IPL 2022: Rajasthan Royals To Mark 14th Anniversary Of IPL 2008 Title Triumph By Celebrating Shane Warne's Life
The Rajasthan Royals (RR) franchise has confirmed that they will be celebrating the life of Australian leg-spinner, Shane Warne, who passed away last month due to a heart attack in a Thailand hotel resort.
RR will be facing Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday which will mark the 14th anniversary of their maiden IPL triumph back in 2008. Warne was the captain of the team that defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 3 wickets in the final of IPL 2008.
“It is befitting that the same stadium where Warne lifted the IPL trophy will see the cricketing world come together to pay their respects and celebrate his life.”
“The franchise would like to iterate that it will not be an occasion to mourn, but to commemorate the great man, and salute him for his never-ending contribution to the game of cricket as well as impacting thousands of lives around the world through his words, energy, and actions both on and off the field,” RR said in a release.
Shane Warne’s brother to be part of the celebration
Warne’s brother, Jason, will be part of the celebrations after accepting the invite from the franchise. The event will also be supported by the BCCI.
The Rajasthan players will also be sporting special initials ‘SW23’ as a tribute to Shane Warne. A Tribute Gallery has also been created at the DY Patil Stadium which the fans can visit.
