IPL 2022: Ravi Shastri Questions MS Dhoni And CSK's Decision To Name Ravindra Jadeja As Their New Captain Ahead Of The Tournament

After their fourth loss, against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, former India head coach Ravi Shastri questioned MS Dhoni and CSK’s decision to name Ravindra Jadeja as the new captain before the season began.
The defending champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), have had their worst start to an IPL season, losing four games in a row to fall to the bottom of the standings in the 15th edition of the league.
Dhoni has led CSK since the IPL’s inception, guiding them to 11 playoff appearances and four trophies in 12 seasons. However, only two days before the season began, Dhoni stepped down, handing the baton to Jadeja, who had never captained a senior team and whose last experience as a leader came when he was a U-19 captain for a brief period in 2007.
Even though few people disagreed with the captaincy decision considering Jadeja’s steady growth in international cricket over the last few years, CSK lost their first four matches in IPL 2022, prompting criticism of the captaincy decision.
Faf du Plessis should not have been released before the mega auction: Ravi Shastri
If Dhoni had wanted to step aside from the captaincy, Ravi Shastri reckons CSK should have not dismissed Faf du Plessis ahead of the mega auction and instead have gone through with the South African batsman as their skipper, enabling Jadeja to perform more “freely.”
“I believe Jadeja should concentrate on his own game.” After CSK lost by eight wickets against SRH, Ravi Shastri commented on ESPNcricinfo, “If Chennai were to think back, they would not have let go of Faf du Plessis.” He [du Plessis] is a match-winner, has won the IPL with Chennai, and possesses a wealth of expertise.”
Faf du Plessis was then signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore and made their captain after Virat Kohli stepped down following the IPL 2021 season. RCB has won three consecutive matches and has only lost one of their four games this season.
