IPL 2022: RCB, KKR, PBKS Keen On Signing Shreyas Iyer In Auction - Reports
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Punjab Kings (PBKS) are all interested in signing Indian batter, Shreyas Iyer, in the upcoming IPL 2022 mega auction.
Iyer is seen as a potential candidate for captaincy and with all three teams in dire need of one, he seems like their go-to choice. The mega auctions will take place on February 12 & 13 in Bengaluru.
“Post Virat Kohli quitting the RCB captaincy, RCB are really interested in having Iyer as their next captain. Expect them to bid aggressively for the Mumbaikar in next month’s auction in Bangalore. The Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings are also expected to eye him in the auction,” a source was quoted as saying to TOI.
Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari leading race to take up middle-order spot in Tests
Following Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara’s failure in the recently concluded Test series against South Africa, the Indian team management is likely to give a long rope to Iyer and Hanuma Vihari, both of whom were part of the tour.
Vihari played in the second Test when Kohli was sitting out injured and he contributed with 60 valuable runs in the middle-order. As for Iyer, he debuted in the home series against New Zealand and scored a century and fifty on his debut.
Now that the team is likely to start looking at options, these two are leading the race. Notably, Shubman Gill is being considered as a middle-order option as he might find it tough to enter the playing XI with both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul looking set at the top.
