IPL 2022 is set to entertain cricket fans soon. IPL 2022 is set to commence on March 26. The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will take place for more than two months and the final is scheduled to take place on May 29.

The BCCI has announced the official schedule of IPL 2022 and some key decisions regarding the tournament. IPL 2022 will witness a battle among 10 teams, as two new teams Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are added to the tournament.

All the 10 teams have developed their squads for the tournament. Last month, IPL auction 2022 took place in Bengaluru, where all the 10 franchises grabbed their favourite players. A total of 204 players were picked by the 10 franchises during the auction. Out of these, there were 67 overseas players and 137 Indian players.

Ishan Kishan was the costliest player in IPL 2022 auction. Mumbai Indians bought the wicketkeeper-batsman for Rs. 15.25 crores during the auction, bringing him back to the side. Deepak Chahar at 14 crores, Shreyas Iyer at Rs. 12.25 crores, and Liam Livingstone at Rs. 11.5 crores were some other big picks during the auction.

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League will be called TATA IPL 2022 as the TATA Group is the new sponsor of the tournament. IPL 2022 will consist of 74 matches including the playoffs and finals. A total of 70 league matches will be played among the 10 teams.

Two virtual groups have been set up by BCCI for IPL 2022. In group A, there are teams like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants. Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings, and Gujarat Titans are part of group B.

Each team will play two matches against teams of their own group and the one situated on the same spot in the other group. They will play one match against the other teams of the other group. Hence, every team will play a total of 14 games during the league stage.

IPL 2022 Dates

IPL 2022 will kickstart on March 26 and conclude with the final on May 29. All the league stage matches will be played across 4 venues in Mumbai and Pune.

Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium are the three venues of Mumbai where league matches will be played. Pune’s MCA International Stadium is the 4th venue. The venue for playoffs and final will be decided by BCCI later.

Wankhede Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host 20 matches each while Brabourne Stadium and MCA International Stadium will host 15 games each. Each team will play 4 matches at Wankhede and DY Patil Stadium and 3 matches each at Brabourne Stadium and MCA International Stadium.

10 teams are part of IPL 2022. They are Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Lucknow Super Giants, and Gujarat Titans.

Ahead of the auction, the old 8 teams were allowed to retain a maximum of 4 players in their squad. In addition, the two new teams Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans were allowed to pick three draft players in their squads. Hence, after the conclusion of the auction, all the 10 teams have inducted their favourite players into their squads now.

Chennai Super Kings will be led by MS Dhoni in IPL 2022 too. The four-time IPL winners bought 21 players during IPL auction 2022. Deepak Chahar, Dwayne Bravo, Ambati Rayudu, Deepak Chahar, Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, Mitchell Santner were some crucial players that CSK bought during the mega auction.

Delhi Capitals also retained 4 players in their squad ahead of IPL 2022 auction namely Rishabh Pant, Anrich Nortje, Prithvi Shaw, and Axar Patel. During the auction, the IPL 2020 runners-up bought 20 players. Rishabh Pant will lead the team in IPL 2022.

Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Varun Chakravarthy, and Venkatesh Iyer were the 4 players that Kolkata Knight Riders retained ahead of the auction. During the auction, the two-time IPL champions bought 21 players. The team also nominated Shreyas Iyer as their skipper for IPL 2022.

Mumbai Indians retained 4 players in their squad during IPL 2022 auction-Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah. They bought 21 players during the auction. Ishan Kishan was bought by MI for Rs. 15.25 crores and become the most expensive player in the auction.

Punjab Kings retained only two players in their squad ahead of IPL 2022 who were Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. During the auction, the franchise grabbed 23 players.

Shikhar Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Jonny Bairstow, and Liam Livingstone are some popular players that PBKS bought during the auction. Mayank Agarwal will lead the team in IPL 2022.

Rajasthan Royals retained Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Yashasvi Jaiswal in their squad ahead of IPL 2022 auction. They later bought 21 players during the auction.

Some key players in the RR squad are Devdutt Padikkal, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal, Prasidh Krishna, and R Ashwin. Prasidh Krishna was the team’s costliest player at Rs. 10 crores.

Royal Challengers Bangalore retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell, and Mohammed Siraj ahead of IPL auction 2022. During the auction, the three-time runners-up bought 19 players.

Faf du Plessis, Dinesh Karthik, Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Harshal Patel were some of the costliest players for RCB. Virat Kohli left the captaincy of the team after last season and the team is yet to appoint a new skipper for the team in IPL 2022.

Sunrisers Hyderabad retained Kane Williamson, Abdul Samad, and Umran Malik ahead of the auction. During the auction, they bought 20 players. Nicholas Pooran was the team’s costliest player at Rs. 1075 crores.

Lucknow Super Giants  is one of the two new franchises in IPL 2022. They bought three draft players ahead of auction namely KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi. During the auction, the team picked 18 players.

Avesh Khan, Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Jason Holder, Quinton De Kock, and Manish Pandey were a few other key players that Lucknow bought. KL Rahul is going to lead the team in IPL 2022.
