IPL 2022: Support Staff Is Responsible To Recognise If Players Are Struggling - KKR Mentor David Hussey
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) mentor David Hussey asserted that the players are bound to get injured or fatigued and it is upto the support staff and coaches to recognize and help the players recover.
Ahead of the IPL 2022 season, KKR will be missing out on the services of Pat Cummins and Aaron Finch in the first five games. They cannot afford to lose anyone else, especially to an injury. Maintaining the fitness of a player, therefore, is of paramount importance, as per Hussey.
“Injuries throughout the tournament can be tough and it can have a huge impact on any team. It is up to us as the support staff to recognise if anyone is struggling injury-wise, fitness-wise, or fatigue wise and get on the same page as them, if they need rest.
“We have to work with our fitness trainers to keep them as fresh as possible,” Hussey told in a press conference ahead of the season.
Speaking about the wicket-keepers in the squad, Hussey said he is satisfied with how they did in the IPL 2022 mega auction. They managed to get their hands on Sheldon Jackson and Sam Billings, both of whom have keeping experience.
“We have a wonderful wicket-keeper in Jackson. He is also a good striker of the ball and dominates in Ranji Trophy. There is also Billings, who has kept wickets for England,” Hussey added.
KKR has a stacked squad this time around and will be led by the 27-year-old Indian batter, Shreyas Iyer, for whom they shelled out INR 12.25 crores. They will be hoping to go one step further this time, having reached the IPL 2021 finals.
