MS Dhoni sent shockwaves in the Indian Premier League community as the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) confirmed that he was quitting as the franchise captain ahead of the IPL 2022 and passing on the baton to all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. This brings an end to Dhoni’s IPL captaincy reign of CSK which resulted in four IPL titles for the yellow brigade.

At 40, Dhoni is on the last leg of his career and he did what a true leader does before going out – shape his successor. Like Dhoni did with Virat Kohli at Team India, he has given charge of the team to Jadeja, one of the world’s greatest all-rounders. With Jadeja having next to no experience of captaincy, leading CSK with Dhoni’s support next to him could prove to be the ideal recipe for success.

Talking about this development, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan told ESPNCricinfo: “MS Dhoni was thinking about it. He felt it is the right time to hand over captaincy to Jaddu [Jadeja]. He feels Jaddu is also in prime form of his career and it is the ideal time for him lead CSK. What will be good for the franchise must be [in the] back of his mind.”

Meanwhile, former India keeper MSK Prasad also shared his opinion on MS Dhoni quitting the CSK captaincy, calling it shocking as he had expected MS to lead the franchise for a couple of years more.

You Never Know How MS Dhoni Does It- MSK Prasad On His Decision To Quit CSK Captaincy

Former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad said that Dhoni’s decision was expected but not this easy. The former India wicketkeeper feels that he expected Dhoni to take the decision probably at the end of the season and finds the move all the more surprising given the fact that CSK lifted the IPL title last season.

“Franky speaking, I am really shocked hearing this. Ever since the IPL has come up, we have always seen Dhoni in yellow colors and leading the side. And even if you see the last edition, he won the IPL championship. It is really surprising to me to hear that MS is not going to lead CSK.

Under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, CSK won four titles in 2010,2011, 2018, and 2021.
