The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be introducing some changes in the rules for the upcoming 15th edition of the Indian Premier League- the IPL 2022. The tournament is slated to begin from March 26 onwards with the finalists of the last season Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clashing in the opening encounter at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

The IPL 2022 season will feature ten teams vying for the coveted Indian Premier League Trophy. Two teams in Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT) have been added to the mix and the IPL 2022 will have 74 matches in all including the 4 playoff matches.

The tournament will be played across four venues in Maharashtra for the league stages. Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai, and MCA Stadium in Pune will host the league stages, which will also have 12 double-headers.

“In each innings, the number of reviews have been increased from one to two,” the BCCI said.

The BCCI has also said that in case of a Super Over to break a tie in the playoffs/final is not possible, then the team that has finished higher in the league will be declared winners.

“If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner as described, then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular season, finished in the higher position in the league table will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,” the new rules state.

The BCCI also touched upon the rules regarding COVID affecting a team from fielding 12 players for a match and how the ruling for that will be has been changed.
