A sensational last over by Daniel Sams meant that Gujarat Titans have lost two games in a row in IPL 2022 and Mumbai Indians have won their 2nd consecutive game in the season. GT needed 9 runs off the last over with David Miller and Rahul Tewatia on strike but Sams kept his composure to win the game for MI. It was a sort of redemption for Sams who was taken to the cleaners by Pat Cummins earlier in the season.

Earlier in the day, Hardik Pandya won the toss and decided to bowl first. In the first 6 overs, his decision to bowl first did not seem to be working as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan scored 63 runs in the powerplay. But then in the 8th over, Rohit got out for 43 in trying to play a reverse sweep to Rashid Khan.

From there MI lost their momentum completely as they lost wickets at regular intervals. In the end, it was Tim David’s 44 runs from 21 balls that took MI to a respectable 177. The best bowler for GT was Rashid Khan who took important wickets of Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard.

GT started the chase brilliantly as once again Wriddhiman Saha was at his absolute best in the powerplay. Shubham Gill was struggling in the beginning but soon he found his rhythm. Both Saha and Gill got to their fifties on consecutive deliveries. They both added 106 runs for the first wicket. But once Gill got out, GT too lost their way in the middle. Sai Sudarshan got hit wicket while Hardik Pandya got run-out. Rahul Tewatia too got run-out in the last over. And eventually, MI clinched the game from the jaws of the defeat.
