Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Mumbai Indians for the 2nd time in IPL 2022 as they beat them by 52 runs and stay alive in the tournament.

Earlier in the day, KKR made wholesale changes in their XI yet again. They brought in Ajinkya Rahane, Venkatesh Iyer, Varun Chakraborty, Pat Cummins and Sheldon Jackson.

But apart from Venkatesh Iyer, who scored 43 runs off 24 balls, both Ajinkya Rahane and Jackson failed with the bat.

In fact apart from V Iyer, the only other batter to put a decent score was Nitish Rana who scored 43 runs off 26 balls. Most other batters struggled as Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with the ball.

He picked up 5 wickets for 10 runs in his 4 overs which included a marvellous 18 dot balls, 11 of which came in his last two overs at the death.

In the 18th over, Bumrah picked up the wickets of Sheldon Jackson, Pat Cummins and Sunil Narine. That over completely changed the momentum in MI’s favour in the slog overs.

MI’s chase did not begin in the greatest fashion as Rohit Sharma was given out in controversial circumstances. Tilak Varma, the highest score for MI this season couldn’t add much to the tally either. Ramandeep who had replaced Suryakumar Yadav in the XI, couldn’t get going either.

Tim David hit 3 consecutive fours to begin his innings but then he just couldn’t find solutions to KKR’s spinners as Varun Chakravarthy dismissed him.

Soon, Ishan Kishan after completing his third fifty of the season also got out to Pat Cummins. Cummins picked up two more wickets in the same over and killed the chase. A couple of run-outs in the end summed up MI’s day with the bat.
