Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Washington Sundar might miss the next two games for his team after splitting the webbing of his bowling hand. The same was confirmed by SRH’s Director Of Cricket Tom Moody after Hyderabad’s win over Gujarat on Monday, April 11.
Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Gujarat Titans by 8 wickets to win back-to-back matches and get to 4 points on the table. Washington Sundar bowled three overs for 14 runs in the game. The injury prevented him from completing his full quota of overs.
Washington Sundar Has Torn The Webbing Of His Right Hand: Tom Moody
“Washington has torn the webbing in his right hand, between his thumb and first finger. We must monitor that over the next two-three days. Hopefully, it isn’t a significant blow. I’d imagine it’d take probably a week or so to settle down” Moody said on Sundar’s injury.
The Indian all-rounder has struggled with a few injuries in the last two years. He missed the T20I series against West Indies after suffering a hamstring injury while fielding during the third ODI in Ahmedabad. He also missed the second half of IPL 2021 as he picked up a finger injury.
SRH does have a few spinners in their ranks who can replace Washington Sundar. Shreyas Gopal, the leg-spinner, and J Suchith, the left-arm spinning allrounder are the two potential options. Aiden Markram who is bowling a few overs can also be considered as an option. Markram has bowled a few overs in the game and Tom Moody considers him the sixth bowling option. He also bowled an over against the Titans.
“We also consider Aiden Markram as a good sixth bowler, and he bowls spin well. Most teams we’ve played have quite a few left-handers in their top order, so it has suited us to have eight overs of off-spin if we require” Moody said of their bowling plans.
Sunrisers Hyderabad takes on Kolkata Knight Riders in their next game on Friday, April 15.
