IPL 2022: We Have To Be Careful In Using Umran Malik - BCCI President Sourav Ganguly
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly feels that the IPL 2022 season has been dominated by the bowlers and he was mighty impressed with the performances of Umran Malik and Kuldip Sen.
Umran has become the talk of the town after his ability to bowl at 150kmph on a consistent basis with good control. In the current season for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Umran has taken 18 wickets in 12 matches at an average of 22.06.
Apart from Umran, Ganguly also laid eyes on Rajasthan Royals (RR) pacer, Kuldip Sen. The 25-year-old from Madhya Pradesh has taken 8 wickets in 7 games but more importantly, he has bowled well in the death overs.
“How many can bowl at 150 kmph? Not many. I won’t be surprised if he gets picked for the national team. We have to be careful in using him, though. Umran is the fastest.
“I also like Kuldip Sen. Also, T Natarajan has made comeback. We will have Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. Finally, it is up to the selectors,” Ganguly was quoted as saying to Mid Day.
“Very happy to see the dominance of the bowlers” – Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly also pointed out that the bowlers have done extremely well despite playing on tracks that are far more conducive for the batters. The spinners also have had a good season with two leg spinners leading the wicket-takers chart.
“I’m very happy to see the dominance of the bowlers. The wickets in Mumbai and Pune are very good and they are extracting good bounce. The spinners are bowling well besides the speed merchants,” the former cricketer further added.
India will be playing against South Africa at home for which they are likely to test out the new pacers with an eye on the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year.
