Gautam Gambhir, the mentor of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), praised young Mohsin Khan for his outstanding performance against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday.
Mohsin responded with statistics of 4/16 from his four overs in a contest that saw 384 runs scored at the Wankhede.
David Warner and the dangerous-looking Rishabh Pant were both bowled by the youthful left-arm, completely turning the game around. In the 17th over, Mohsin also got rid of Rovman Powell and Shardul Thakur, thereby ending the game for the Capitals.
Gautam Gambhir believes the youngster’s performance against DC was a match, resulting in a six-run victory for Lucknow. The former Indian batsman remarked in a clip uploaded by the franchise:
“Mohsin. I don’t believe it’s a one-over situation. It’s simply Mohsin’s period of four overs, 16 for four runs. And the last one, when he got Rovman Powell and then [Shardul] Thakur out, was a watershed moment.”
“Young man with a terrific head on his shoulders and a lot of pride in his abilities. If he continues to practice hard, he will most likely become quite a good player.”
‘We still have a lot of work to do’: Gautam Gambhir
Despite the Super Giants’ strong overall performance, Gautam Gambhir underlined that the squad needs to improve in all three areas of the game as the tournament progresses.
Gautam Gambhir said, “KL [Rahul] was fantastic. Hooda [Deepak] was wonderful. But I believe Mohsin Khan was the star performer for me. On this wicket, you can’t even ask somebody like him for this kind of performance. Wankhede, bowling second, has a four-over total of 16 for four, which is incredible. However, we have not yet performed our best cricket yet.”
“There’s a long journey to go still. We didn’t play our greatest cricket, but we did get the win. We would not want to sweep this under the rug, do we? We still need to improve, in my opinion. Keep improving in all three categories. That is exactly what Champion teams do.”
On Saturday in Pune, the Lucknow Super Giants, who are now second in the points rankings, will face the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
