After enduring a disastrous 2020 IPL season, Chennai Super Kings bounced back strongly in the following year. The yellow army defied all odds and went on to clinch the trophy after beating Kolkata Knight Riders in the final. MS Dhoni and Co. produced impressive performances on the league stage and were equally brilliant in the knockouts as well.

Ahead of the IPL 2022 Mega-Auction, Chennai Super Kings have opted to retain four players, namely MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali. CSK didn’t retain any fast bowlers and would look to acquire some notable fast bowlers in the auctions. CSK were brilliant in the last season but at times, it looked like they needed a bowler who could bowl consistently at 140 clicks and trouble the opposition with pace and bounce.

CSK would be keen to address that issue in the upcoming auctions. On that note, here’s a look at three pacers that Chennai Super Kings will target in the mega-auctions.

IPL Auction 2022: 3 Pacers Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Will Target In The Mega Auction

  1. Trent Boult

Trent Boult is coming into the auction on the back of two impressive seasons for Mumbai Indians in 2020 and 2021. He has picked the second-most number of wickets for the franchise for two consecutive seasons.

Boult was impressive both in the power play as well in death overs. He brings variety to the pace-attack with his left-arm bowling and has the ability to bowl both in the powerplay as well as in death overs. In his IPL career so far, Trent Boult has picked 76 wickets in 62 matches at an average of 26.09.

  1. Kagiso Rabada

Surprisingly, Delhi Capitals opted to retain Anrich Nortje ahead of Kagiso Rabada for the next auction. It means that Kagiso Rabada will find himself at the auction pool for the next edition of the tournament. Rabada played an instrumental role with the ball for Delhi Capitals in the 2020 edition of the tournament.

He finished the season as the highest wicket-taker, managing 30 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 18.27. Rabada, though, had a forgettable season last year but you expect the franchise to bid heavily for him in the auctions. Chennai Super Kings are likely to be one of the franchises who would look to buy his services.

  1. Pat Cummins

In 2021, Josh Hazlewood took the new ball for the most part of the season for Chennai Super Kings. In the upcoming edition, Pat Cummins could do that job for them. Australia’s newly appointed skipper, Pat Cummins doesn’t need an introduction.

He is one of the best fast bowlers in modern-day cricket. Cummins has done reasonably well for KKR in the last two editions but the franchise, unfortunately, had to release the pacer for the next edition of the tournament. CSK should target him at the mega-auctions. In his IPL career so far, Pat Cummins has managed to pick 38 wickets in 37 matches at 30.13.
