IPL 2022: Jofra Archer Keen To Follow In Cristiano Ronaldo's Footsteps, Hopes To Perform Out Of Comfort Zone For Mumbai Indians
England pacer and Mumbai Indians (MI) latest recruit, Jofra Archer, is keen to deliver for his new franchise. Archer said that he would like to do what the footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, has done – move out of the comfort zone and prove yourself everywhere.
Ronaldo had settled down at Real Madrid but being the competitor he is, he decided to move to Serie A and play for Juventus. The 36-year-old showcased his class in that league as well, before returning to Manchester United this season.
On similar lines, Archer hoped that he can adapt to the new dressing room atmosphere at MI and contribute effectively. He also expressed his desire to win trophies for the team.
“The change of team and atmosphere is really good because then you get to challenge yourself again because sometimes it is okay to operate in your comfort zone. But once you have gone away and began to perform again in a different team then you can rate yourself.”
“It is like when Ronaldo left, many people said that he wasn’t going to be good outside of Spain. But he has proved himself wherever he has gone now and no one can doubt his skills. So it is the same mindset,” Archer said in an interview with MI.
“When I saw calls from +91, I knew exactly what had happened” – Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer wasn’t watching the IPL 2022 mega auction but once MI bought him for INR 8 crores, he started receiving calls. As soon as he saw the +91 prefix on his phone, he realized what had happened in the auction.
“My phone started to go off. Back-to-back messages. I think some guys from the Mumbai team ended up calling me. When I saw calls from +91, I knew exactly what had happened. I was really excited as it is a great franchise. Really excited to get started and start winning some games and trophies,” Archer added.
Archer is unlikely to participate in this season due to his elbow injury but will be available in the future.
