One of the two newly-added franchises in the IPL, Lucknow, has confirmed its team name ahead of the IPL 2022 season.
It has been named as Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), similar to the Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), the team that was previously owned by the same Sanjiv Goenka-led RPSG Group.
Prior to announcing the name, the franchise had mentioned that the fans will be deciding the name. They have already signed their head coach, Andy Flower, and mentor, Gautam Gambhir, ahead of the season.

Goenka also confirmed that their three draft picks ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction will be KL Rahul, who will be the captain as well, Marcus Stoinis, and Ravi Bishnoi.
Rahul signed on for a whopping fee of INR 17 cr which is the joint-highest with Virat Kohli, who was retained for the same amount back in 2018 by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
“Yes, KL will be the captain. I have been very impressed by KL’s not only batting and wicketkeeping abilities but his leadership skills. He is evolving, he is growing, he is maturing as a player, as a leader and he is somebody I would’ve wanted to lead the team. And I do believe, given the right atmosphere, given the right environment, he will emerge as a phenomenal leader, and he has everything it takes to succeed,” Goenka said about Rahul.
Ahmedabad, the other new franchise in the league, has confirmed Hardik Pandya (INR 15 cr) to be their captain, Rashid Khan (INR 15 cr), and Shubman Gill (INR 8 cr) as their three draft picks.
