Former England spin bowler Graeme Swann lavished praise on Australian pacer Pat Cummins for his incredulous knock against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
KKR handed Mumbai Indians their third defeat in a row in IPL 2022 as the Shreyas Iyer-led side chased 162 with four overs to spare. Cummins, who played his first match for KKR this season, blitzed 56 runs off 15 balls at a staggering strike rate of 373.33.
KKR vs MI: Pat Cummins scored joint-fastest IPL fifty
The Australian Test skipper scored the joint-highest fastest fifty in IPL after he brought up his third IPl fifty in just 14 balls to join Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul in the milestone.
Cummins clobbered six massive sixes and four boundaries in his splendorous innings, he scored 34 runs in an over of Australian teammate Daniel Sams to take KKR past the finishing line.
KKR vs MI: Even Brendon McCullum wouldn’t done it as well as that: Graeme Swann on Pat Cummins’ innings
KKR needed 61 from 41 balls when Cummins joined opener Venkatesh Iyer at the crease after Tymal Mills dismissed Andre Russel with a short ball. Swann said Cummins’ innings was exhilarating and not even KKR head coach Brendon McCullum could play such kind of knock.
“Everybody thought it was Mumbai’s game after Russell got out, but Pat Cummins. What on earth! What did he eat in Pakistan? He has always been a good bowler and a good hitter, but that was ridiculous,” Swann told Cricket.com.
“It was just amazing from him taking the game by the scruff of the neck. Even Bazz (Brendon McCullum) wouldn’t done it as well as that,” he added.
Swann also said that Cummins’ knock was one of the best played by bowlers in T20 cricket and Mumbai Indians were left bewildered by the Australian’s fireworks in Pune.
“Without a doubt. I mean, Pat is, first of all, a bowler, a bowling allrounder. Even the first six off the legs was enormous. He wasn’t just swinging wildly, but picking it off the right areas where the ball was delivered and it was going miles,” the former England player asserted.
“When you see someone who is hitting that cleanly, as a bowling team there’s nothing you could do. It’s just phenomenal stuff,” he added.
KKR are currently leading the charts of IPL 2022 with six points in four matches whereas Mumbai Indians join their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings at the bottom of the points table. MI and CSK have lost their first three games of the season, a fact that is difficult to digest for cricket fans.
