KKR vs MI: Pat Cummins Hits 14 Ball Fifty vs MI, Equals KL Rahul's Record For Fastest Fifty In The History Of IPL
Pat Cummins scored 56 runs off just 15 deliveries against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday to take his side over the line in a chase of 160.
In the process, he equalled the record for the fastest fifty in the history of the IPL. The record was exclusively held by KL Rahul previously who hit a 14 Ball fifty against Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 IPL season.
A Valuable Innings By Pat Cummins
Cummins played very valuable innings and changed the whole game for his team as at one stage Kolkata Knight Riders were 101 for 5. They still needed 60 runs to win. Mumbai Indians were on top.
But Cummins was having none of it as he scored 56 of the 60 remaining runs and took his side home. Cummins was playing his first game of the season. He started pretty well with the ball as he picked up 2 wickets in the middle overs. His last over was taken for cleaners by Kieron Pollard but Cummins made it all equal while batting.
IPL has seen many great knocks in the past, as stated the record for fastest fifty was exclusively held by KL Rahul but now is equalled by Cummins. Sunil Narine, another KKR player while opening for KKR against Royal Challengers Bangalore had hit a 15 ball fifty in 2017. He opened with Chris Lynn and both of them added over 100 runs inside the powerplay itself.
Prior to that top knock, another KKR player, Yousuf Pathan had hit a 15 ball fifty against Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2014. He top-scored with 72 runs from 22 balls and took his team over the line. KKR needed to win the game in a certain no. of overs to finish in the top 2 in the points table and Pathan provided them just that.
KKR went on to win their 2nd title that season.
Pat Cummins’s innings may surprise many, but it certainly surprised Rohit Sharma, who was at the receiving end of the brilliant knock. One thing is for certain, it would take some time to better this record.
