Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) hit back to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) with a befitting reply after the former clinched an 18-run victory on Wednesday at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai.

LSG skipper KL Rahul asked RCB to bat first, the three-time IPL finalists dented early blows in the first over as LSG pacer Dushmantha Chameera reduced them to seven for two in the first over itself.

Chameera used the extra bounce to send off RCB opener Anuj Rawat on the fifth ball, not to forget the spectacular diving effort by Rahul to complete the catch at mid-off. Chameera didn’t stop there and dismissed Kohli for a golden duck as the batter got a thick edge off the extra bounce and flew to Deepak Hooda at the backward point.

However, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis stood tall and kept calm in the fragile situation as the South African guided the team to 181/6 with his valiant 64-ball 96, including 11 fours and a couple of sixes. Youngster Shahbaz Ahmed, who scored 26 in 22 balls, played the anchor’s role in the middle to his captain.

Lucknow fell 18 runs short of their target as Faf and his men moved up to second place on the points table.
