Wasim Jaffer, a former India opener, believes that the DC captain blundered during the game. He questioned why DC’s whole quota of four overs was not used, pointing out a fundamental fault in Delhi’s strategy.

The Delhi Capitals lost their second game in a row in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Thursday. Despite a blistering start from opener Prithvi Shaw (61 off 34 balls), Delhi could only muster 150 runs in 20 overs. In reply, KL Rahul’s Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) snuck home with six wickets in the penultimate over.

Rishabh Pant made a blunder. He gave Lalit Yadav, a part-timer, four overs. Axar Patel, his wicket-taking option, bowled only two overs,” Jaffer told ESPNCricinfo.

“I’m sure someone would have gone for a left-handed pitcher.” Taking Quinton de Kock out at that point would have given the game a new lease on life. Why not, given how wonderfully Axar bowled those two overs?”

“It did take me by surprise. Kuldeep was also brought on to bowl since Anrich Nortje was ruled out of the attack due to no balls. Why keep bowling Nortje if he’s having a bad day after five months?” he added.

It was a mistake to move Rovman Powell up the lineup: Wasim Jaffer

Rovman Powell’s promotion up the order, according to Wasim Jaffer, was a mistake. The Caribbean all-rounder was bowled out for three runs after walking out to bat at number three.
“Sending Rovman Powell at 3 was a game-changing move for the Delhi Capitals, which went wrong.” They were completely incorrect in their assessment. Sarfaraz Khan was supposed to show up.

“Sarfaraz would have done a much better job batting against the spinners after Prithvi (Shaw) gave such a good start. They might have easily gotten 20-25 runs more with Powell’s power towards the end of the innings,” Wasim Jaffer observed.

With a negative net run-rate of -0.116, DC has dropped to 7th position on the points standings. LSG, on the other hand, is in the second position with six points and an NRR of +0.256.
