Gujarat Titans (GT) all-rounder Rahul Tewatia said that he understands his role in the team will be to take responsibility while batting alongside the franchise’s captain, Hardik Pandya.

Tewatia, who shot to fame last season after smashing five sixes in an over, was bought by GT for INR 9 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction. The price tag may not put extra pressure on him but Tewatia is keen to take responsibility.

The role is the same, what is there in the middle-order, from the batting point of view, myself and Hardik (Pandya) are there in the middle, we will need to take a lot of responsibility and also we will be playing in Mumbai, and we will try and stick to the plans while bowling.”

Like you said, the role of an all-rounder is important and it is there in every team, the ones who bat at 6-7-8 their role is very important, that they have less time and more opportunity to make an impact. It is an important role and we can put the team in a good position,” Tewatia told reporters on Tuesday.

“Winning IPL trophy is the first priority” – Rahul Tewatia

Tewatia has played only one season so far and he hopes that the GT franchise can do well in its very first season. The new team has assembled a strong squad which will be led by Hardik. They have also acquired the services of Rashid Khan, one of the top T20 spinners in the world.

If we bat first, we try to finish well and if we are chasing, we will try and see how we can get over the finish line, and we will prepare accordingly.”

Unfinished business, we can say that I have not won an IPL trophy, so that is the first priority. If our franchise wins the trophy in the first year, there will be no bigger than it. The effort is to do well from any situation and make the team win,” he added.

Gujarat Titans begin their campaign with a match against fellow newbies, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium on March 28.
