Tilak Varma Could Prove To Be Very Important For Mumbai Indians: Ravi Shastri
Varma scored 61 runs off 33 balls and by the time he was at the crease MI were well on track to chase the target. But a fantastic delivery from Ravichandran Ashwin ended Varma’s innings. After that, a lower middle-order collapse meant that MI lost the game by 23 runs.
This is MI’s 2nd straight loss in the season. They are yet to open their account on the points table. Their star batter Suryakumar Yadav has not featured in the first two games for MI. This has exposed MI’s middle order. But Varma has been a saving grace.
Shastri said that he liked Varma’s temperament very much as he wasn’t scared of the big names.
“He was very calm and composed and has an all-round game with great shots; especially in front of the wicket and the sweep. He used the pace really well too. This is a good omen for Mumbai Indians because Suryakumar Yadav is not in the side and they are missing him very much“, Shastri told ESPNcricinfo.

Shashtri further added: “They need strength and stability in the middle order and that will come only when Suryakumar Yadav returns. So, the innings he played today will benefit Tilak a lot as the tournament proceeds.”
MI in their first game struggled to put up a strong total on the board after getting a strong start in their first game and then the team lost the momentum against RR after looking on course to chase the target.
MI have yet again started slowly in the tournament but they would hope that they could change that as soon as possible as this time the competition is tough with the addition of two new teams.
Mumbai Indians will return to action on April 6 when they meet Kolkata Knight Riders.
