MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Ruturaj Gaikwad, And Moeen Ali Retained By Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Chennai Super Kings have announced their retentions for IPL 2022. The IPL 2021 champions have retained 4 players in their squad. Since the next edition of IPL 2022 will witness the addition of 2 new franchises based in Ahmedabad and Lucknow, the next year’s tournament will be a 10-team event.

Therefore, a mega auction is set to take place ahead of next year’s tournament. Ahead of the mega auction, all the current 8 teams were asked to retain a maximum of 4 players in their squad. Out of these, there can a maximum of 2 overseas players. The deadline to submit the IPL 2022 retentions list was November 30, 2021.

Chennai Super Kings Releases IPL 2022 Retentions List

Chennai Super Kings released their retentions list and retained 4 players in their squad. MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad are the 3 domestic players that the franchise has retained. In the overseas category, the 4-time IPL champions have retained Moeen Ali.

Chennai Super Kings executed a fabulous show last season. The team finished on the 2nd spot in the IPL 2021 points table after the league stage. The MS Dhoni-led side won 9 matches and lost 5 out of 14 and earned 18 points. After qualifying for playoffs, Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1 and Kolkata Knight Riders in the final to clinch the trophy for the 4th time.

After the announcement of the retentions list by all the teams, the two new franchises will be allowed to pick 3 players of their choice from the pool of released players. Out of these 3 players, 2 should be domestic and 1 should be an overseas player. The franchises can pick their players from December 1 to December 25, 2021. IPL 2021 auctions are expected to take place in January next year.

The salary purse of each time for IPL 2022 mega auction is Rs. 90 crore, 5 crores up by the previous editions purse of Rs. 85 crore. The salary purse will also see respectively deductions for retained players. For instance, Rs 42 crore will be deducted from the salary purse of teams that retain 4 players.

If a team retains 3 players. Rs. 33 crore will be deducted from their salary purse. For 2 and 1 players, Rs. 24 crores and Rs. 14 crore will be deducted from the salary purse. If a team retains only 1 player who is also uncapped, Rs 4 crore will be deducted.
