Australia will be embarking on a historic tour to Pakistan for the first time since 1998 for a series of three one-day internationals (ODIs), three Test matches, and a one-off T20 International (T20I) in March this year. However, if reports are to be believed, many Australian players might skip a few matches of the limited-overs series to ensure longer participation in the IPL 2022.

Cricket Australia (CA) has said contracted Australian players will not be available for the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) till April 6. However, Cricbuzz has reported that a few top-tier Australia players are looking to pull out of some white-ball matches in Pakistan and leave for the IPL 2022 early to play all the matches.

These players would join the franchise after the Test series ends on March 25 and cool off till April 6.

A Few Australian Players To Reach India To Ensure Longer Participation In IPL 2022: Report

Cricbuzz understands that a few top Australians will pull out of the white-ball games in Pakistan so that they can ensure longer participation in the IPL. However, CA policy doesn’t let the contracted players participate in other games when the national team is in action.

“There is a bit of optics involved here. The CA would not permit their contracted players to participate in the IPL before April 5 but the players would come here and complete the required bio-security protocols meanwhile,” a franchise official told Cricbuzz.

Doing so will ensure the Australian players play for their franchises straight from April 6 onwards. This wouldn’t be possible if they returned from Pakistan after the white-ball series, given the expected quarantine requirements for the IPL. A bubble-to-bubble transfer would have worked in everyone’s interest but, apparently, in this case, it is not possible.

Thirteen Australians have either been bought in the mega auction or retained by the franchises.
