Indian head coach Rahul Dravid stated that the team management has a fair idea about the T20 World Cup combinations and the particular player in distinct roles.

After thumping West Indies 3-0 in the ODI series, India handed a similar result to the visitors in the three-match T20I series. India outsmarted the Kieron Pollard-led side in the final T20I by 17 runs on Sunday at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

India whitewash WI 3-0 in the T20I series

India defeated West Indies by six wickets in the first T20I followed by an eight-run win in a nail-biting second match. Harshal Patel, with his slower and yorker balls, deceived the opposition batters in the series.

Debutant Ravi Bihsnoi complemented Yuzvendra Chahal in the middle overs, the 21-year-old recorded the best economy rate of 6.33 among Indian bowlers.

All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer played some handy cameos in the lower-middle order, he amassed 92 runs from three innings at the strike rate of 184. Suryakumar Yadav was adjudicated as the player of the series for accumulating 107 runs in the series at an average of 53.50, the most from an Indian batter in the series.

We have got a pretty fair idea of the kind of skills we’re looking for: Rahul Dravid

Dravid said they know the right players for different roles but will give everyone the opportunity to fight for their spot.

I think we have got a fair idea between Rohit and myself and the selectors and the management,” Dravid said during a virtual press conference on Sunday.

“I don’t think there’s a set formula to it. But we’re pretty clear about the balance and the combination (for the T20 World Cup). We are just structuring a little bit of the team around it and also balancing individual workloads as well.

“We have got a pretty fair idea of the kind of skills we’re looking for in Australia, with the kind of guys who are in running. Not everything is set in stone but we want to give everyone a fair chance to stake their claim for those spots,” he added.

India starts their bilateral series against Sri Lanka on February 24 with the three-match T20I series followed by a couple of Test matches, with the first Test scheduled to begin on March 4 in Mohali.
