Mumbai Indians Owner Reveals Who Will Open The Batting With Rohit Sharma In IPL 2022

Mumbai Indians (MI) owner Akash Ambani has revealed a huge secret, naming the player who will open the innings with captain Rohit Sharma in the upcoming IPL 2022 after the Indian Premier League- IPL 2022 auction concluded on February 13, 2022.

The MI was one of the best buyers on the second day of the auction, after making some impressive buys on the first day of the IPL auction. In the two-day mega event, 204 players were sold out of the 600 plus shortlisted and over INR 550 crores were spent by the ten franchises, which included the two new teams in Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans.

The MI had retained four players ahead of the auction in Rohit Sharma (Rs 16 crore), Jasprit Bumrah (Rs 12 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (Rs 8 crore), and Kieron Pollard (Rs 6 crore).

They had an impressive outing in the event with Jofra Archer being their most costly buy on the second day as they spent INR 8 crores on the England pacer. This after he will not be playing in IPL 2022 edition due to recovering from his surgery and will only be available from IPL 2023 onwards.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians, for the first time ever in their IPL auction history spent more than 10 crore rupees on a single player, when they got young India batter and keeper Ishan Kishan for a whopping INR 15.25 crores, making him the second-costliest Indian player in IPL history and the costliest at the IPL 2022 auction.

He also confirmed that Ishan Kishan will open the innings with the bat for the Mumbai team in the upcoming IPL 2022 season. Kishan has been picked in the Indian ODI and T20I side as an opener and the selectors want to groom him as a top-order batter to exploit his attacking nature in the powerplay overs.

The IPL 2022 is expected to be played in Maharashtra for the league stages and might begin from March 27 onwards.
