The 42nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) was played between Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) and KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Friday, April 29.

KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants won the match by 20 runs against Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings to win their 6th match of the Indian Premier League 2022.

Earlier, Punjab Kings (PBKS) won the toss and opted to field first and they made no changes in the playing XI. On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made one change in the playing XI as pacer Avesh Khan replaced batter, Manish Pandey, in the team.

Arshdeep Singh opened the attack for Punjab Kings against Lucknow Super Giants opening duo of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock and the pacer conceded 5 runs in the over. In the second over of the match pacer, Sandeep Sharma gave away just 2 runs.

Kagiso Rabada came to bowl the third over of the match and on the 5th ball, he dismissed KL Rahul, who scored 6 runs off 11 balls, and ended up conceding 6 runs in the over. In the next 3 overs, LSG batters scored 3, 16 and 7 runs and at the end of the powerplay, they were at 39/1.

Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda had an amazing 85 runs partnership off 59 balls before the former was dismissed by Sandeep Sharma on the 4th ball of the 13th over. De Kock scored 46 runs off 37 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Then Lucknow Super Giants faced a massive batting collapse as they went from 98/2 to 144/8. After the failure of the middle-order batting unit of LSG that consisted of Krunal Pandya, Ayush Badoni, Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder, Lucknow Super Giants were able to post 153/8 on the board. Also, pacer Kagiso Rabada completed his 4-wicket haul.

Chasing the target, Punjab Kings’ opening batters Shikhar Dhawan and Mayank Agarwal added 35 runs together before the latter was dismissed by Dushmantha Chameera on the 4th ball of the 5th over. Mayank Agarwal scored 25 runs off 17 balls, including 2 fours and 2 sixes. At the end of the powerplay, Punjab Kings were at 46/1.

Ravi Bishnoi castled veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan on the 3rd ball of the 7th over to end PBKS opener’s 5 runs innings off 15 balls. On the last ball of the 8th over Krunal Pandya cleaned up in-form Bhanuka Rajapaksa for 9.

In the 13th over Mohsin Khan dismissed Liam Livingstone for 18 and in the 14th over Krunal Pandya bowled a maiden-wicket over by dismissing Jitesh Sharma for 2.

On the second ball of the 16th over Dushmantha Chameera dismissed Jonny Bairstow and the PBKS batter 32 runs off 28 balls, including 5 fours.

In the end, Lucknow Super Giants bowlers showed sheer dominance to help their team win the 6th match of the Indian Premier League 2022.
