Punjab Kings started their tournament on the perfect note after their batters put up a stellar show to chase down a humongous target of 206 set by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Game 3 of the IPL 2022 season.

Chasing the monumental target on a good batting surface, PBKS openers blazed away to 63/0 in the powerplay. It was the perfect platform for the power-hitters to come and unleash the carnage and that’s exactly what they did.

After Mayank Agarwal (32 off 24), Shikhar Dhawan (43 off 29), and Bhanuka Rajapaksa (43 off 22) made sure the required run rate didn’t climb too high, Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan, and Odean Smith completed the formalities.

There were as many as 26 sixes in the game – 13 scored by each team in what was an extremely entertaining match. Eventually, PBKS closed the game out with more than an over to spare and registered their first points in the season.

Earlier, Faf du Plessis turned his fortunes around after a poor start. He scored 71 off his last 24 deliveries, and his knock (88 off 57 balls) included as many as 7 sixes.

Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik played fine cameos as well which enabled the team to put up 205/2 on the board. However, their bowlers failed to come to the party and they start their campaign with a tough loss.

Notably, both teams had a scratchy bowling performance as they conceded 23 extras each. The batters enjoyed the deck on offer and made merry.
