PBKS vs RR: If The Wickets Remain Good, Jos Buttler Can Break Virat Kohli's 973-run Record In IPL 2022 – Harbhajan Singh

The 41-year-old Harbhajan Singh has said that if the pitches remain good in the IPL 2022 the Rajasthan Royals (RR) opening batsman Jos Buttler can break Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli’s record of 973 runs in an Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Former Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Kohli smashed 973 in the IPL 2016 in 16 games at an average of 81.08 and a strike rate of 152.03, including 4 centuries and 7 fifties, with his highest score being 113.

Meanwhile, Buttler has so far scored 588 runs in 10 Indian Premier League 2022 games at an average of 65.33 and a strike rate of 150.76, including 3 centuries and 3 fifties.

Speaking to Sportskeeda on the show ‘SK Match ki Baat’, Harbhajan Singh said that Buttler is capable enough to breach the 973-run mark if Rajasthan Royals enter the final of the tournament. He asserted:

“He (Buttler) definitely has the capability (to break Kohli’s record). With the way he is batting and the kind of form he has shown, it is very difficult to stop him.”

“However, the pitches will slow down and it will be interesting to see how he tackles spin. But if the wickets remain good, Buttler can break the record. If RR play all 17 games and go to the final, I think he will go ahead of Kohli.”

The 52nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will be played between Mayank Agarwal-led Punjab Kings and Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, May 7.

One of the key battles in the match will be between Yuzvendra Chahal, who is the highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League 2022, and explosive batter Liam Livingstone. While talking about this battle, Harbhajan said that it is going to be an “interesting contest”.

“It will be an interesting contest. Chahal is a champion bowler and Livingstone doesn’t believe in blocking deliveries. So it will be interesting to see whether he takes on Chahal or plays him out and attacks other bowlers.”
