Umran Malik has been the find of the IPL 2022 so far. The cricketing world saw a glimpse of what he can do in the fag end of IPL 201. However, in IPL 2022, he has been the most promising Indian youngster on show. His pace has taken the best of batsmen by surprise and they have not yet found a method to play him.

Umran Malik’s back to back spells against KKR and PBKS has now taken him to ninth in the wicket-takers list this season. He has taken nine wickets from six matches so far including a four-fer against Punjab Kings.

Former Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar has been very impressed with Malik’s quality as a pacer and he feels that the pacer is going to play for India very soon.

“Umran Malik has been very, very impressive with his speed but more than his speed, it’s his accuracy (that’s impressed). A lot of guys who bowl at that speed tend to spray the ball around but Umran bowls very few wide deliveries,” said Gavaskar on Cricket Live on Star Sports.

Gavaskar though has some advice for the young tearaway pacer. He has asked him to get better control on his line and length and not bowl too many wides down the leg side. He believes working on this aspect of his bowling will make him an unplayable bowler.

“If he can control the wides down the leg side, he will be a tremendous bowler because that will mean he’ll be attacking the stumps all the time, and with his pace, it’s not easy to hit straight. If he bowls wicket-to-wicket, he is pretty much going to become an unplayable bowler. He’s going to play for India.”

Malik went wicketless in his first two games against LSG and CSK, he came back with figures of 1/39, 2/27 and an IPL career-best of 4/28 against Punjab Kings.

SRH have won four on the trot after losing their opening two games. They will next play against RCB on April 23 at the Brabourne stadium.
