Rahul Tripathi will now play for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) after being bought for a whopping INR 8.5 crores in the ongoing IPL 2022 mega auction on Saturday.

Tripathi played for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the previous season where he had a huge impact playing at No.3. The attacking batter was in the middle of a bidding war between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and KKR.

His price shot up to INR 3 crore and kept rising to INR 6 crore. KKR then gave up their pursuit and just when Tripathi was about to go to CSK, the Hyderabad franchise turned up and the prices continued rising.

Both teams were desperate to have Tripathi on their side and it was SRH in the end who outbid Chennai. Although the amount dished out might seem a bit too high for the uncapped Indian, both SRH and Tripathi will be happy with the final outcome.

With Tripathi’s buy, SRH has well and truly strengthened their batting, having gone after West Indian explosive batter, Nicholas Pooran. They already have Kane Williamson who can play the role of the anchor and captain the side.
