Former BCCI chairman of selectors MSK Prasad suggested senior Indian batter Virat Kohli on taking a significant break from cricket. Kohli’s batting form has been the talking point in the IPL 2022, the former RCB skipper has scored 216 runs in 11 innings at 21.6 and a strike rate of 111.92.
Kohli scored the first half-century of the tournament against Gujarat Titans, which somehow took the momentum from him as the 53-ball 58 questioned his striking ability and apparently it did more harm than good to the team’s total.
Want Virat Kohli to take a significant break: MSK Prasad
In the match against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday, Kohli displayed the intent to overcome the adversity with some great shots in the powerplay. He carved a wide and short ball over cover for a six off Simarjeet Singh. He slowed down a bit as the match progressed and struggled to play CSK off-spinner Moeen Ali.
Using the turn and a flatter delivery, Moeen crashed into Kohli’s stumps to end his 30-run knock off 33 balls. MSK Prasad joined the cricket pundits like Ravi Shastri in advising Kohli to take a much-needed break and regain form.
“I want Virat (Kohli) to take a significant break and before the Asia Cup, he should be fresh, up and running,” MSK Prasad told news agency PTI.
RCB beat CSK by 13 runs to move up the table
Mahipal Lomror’s resolute 42 off 27 balls and Dinesh Karthik’s cameo, in the end, pushed RCB to 173 for eight in the first innings, a score, in the hindsight, proved enough to defend on a turning track at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.
Death specialist bowler Harshal Patel’s brilliant bowling late in the chase dented CSK’s chances of drubbing their southern rivals. Harshal got the wickets of Ravindra Jadeja, Moeen Ali and Dwaine Pretorius to finish 3/35 and get RCB back on the winning way.
RCB moved up in the top four of the points table while CSK are almost out of the tournament. RCB will play Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 8 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
