Former India National Cricket Team opener Aakash Chopra is disappointed with the performance of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opening batsman Venkatesh Iyer in the marquee Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

Venkatesh Iyer, who was one of the main architects behind Kolkata Knight Riders’ remarkable turnaround in the Indian Premier League 2021 has achieved massive success in the past few months.

However, Iyer, who was entering the Indian Premier League 2022 with good form in his bag after performing well for India, has failed to leave an impact in his first two Indian Premier League games.

In the first match against Chennai Super Kings, he was able to score only 16 runs and in the low-scoring thriller against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he contributed only 10 runs for the Knight Riders.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra said that the Kolkata Knight Riders opener Iyer “has not looked the same player” in the cash-rich league.

“The way KKR batted, it left all of us a little befuddled because they were expected to bat better than that. Venkatesh Iyer just did not look the part. There have been two innings now and he has not looked the same player,” said Aakash on his official YouTube channel.

Ajinkya Rahane played well in the last match – Aakash Chopra

The cricketer-turned-commentator was satisfied with the performance of KKR opener Ajinkya Rahane, who scored 44 runs in the first match and 9 in the second game. However, he added that the Kolkata Knight Riders batters need to give themselves more time out in middle to achieve more success.

“Ajinkya Rahane played well in the last match, he was playing well here as well but one shot too many, that’s been happening with him. Nitish Rana also played a big shot while playing well, give yourself a little more time, take the game a little forward and things change,” said Aakash.
