Glenn Maxwell playing in his first game of the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bangalore came with a brilliant effort to get rid of young Tilak Varma who has had a great tournament so far for Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians started well as they raced to 49 runs in the first 6 overs, but they lost their way in the middle as they lost 3 back to back wickets within 12 runs.
Glenn Maxwell’s Perfect Run Out To Dismiss Tilak Varma
MI was struggling at 62-3 when Varma came out to bat. Suryakumar Yadav was on the other end. Varma was trying to steal a single set off quickly. But Maxwell was quicker as he raced towards the ball picked it up and threw it at the stumps. Varma was well short of his crease. Varma has been very good for MI in his very first season in the IPL. He has already scored a fifty which came against Rajasthan Royals. It came in the losing cause but Varma impressed many with his innings.
Ravi Shastri, former India head Coach was most impressed by him as he appreciated his temperament.
Varma’s run out pushed MI completely on the backfoot as they lost Kieron Pollard soon after losing Varma.
Suryakumar Yadav was the only recognised batter left. Mumbai Indians have lost all of their 3 games so far in the tournament and they would have hoped to get a good start against RCB. But as things stand out MI lost its way completely.
Maxwell on the other hand just did not look as if he was playing his first game of the season as he moved quickly to get to the ball and hit the stumps. He only had one stump to aim at and he did that brilliantly.
RCB would hope that Maxwell shines with the bat too. RCB have shown immense faith in him as he was retained by the franchise ahead of the mega auctions.
