RR vs CSK: Yuzvendra Chahal Equals Imran Tahir's Massive Record As He Reclaims Purple Cap In IPL 2022

Star Rajasthan Royals (RR) leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal equalled former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) leg-spinner Imran Tahir’s massive record as he reclaimed his purple cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.

Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni to become the joint highest wicket-taking spinner in an IPL season in the history of the tournament. Chahal now has 26 wickets in his bag and he equalled CSK spinner Tahir’s record, who picked 26 wickets in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Overall, Chahal has bagged 26 IPL 2022 wickets in 14 games at an average of 16.53, an economy of 7.67 and a strike rate of 12.92, including a hat-trick, a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul.

Chahal is also the 4th highest wicket-taker in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he is the second-highest wicket-taker among spinners in the cash-rich league. Chahal is just two wickets short of becoming the highest wicket-taking spinner in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Amit Mishra is currently the highest wicket-taking spinner in the IPL with 166 wickets under his belt in 154 games and Yuzvendra Chahal has 165 wickets to his name in 128 games.

The 31-year-old leg-spinner said that he likes having the purple cap as only a few spinners in the history of the Indian Premier League have won it. He added that he came to know about equalling Tahir’s record through social media.

“I really like having the purple cap since only a couple of spinners have gotten it. I knew about equalling the most wickets in a season with Imran Tahir because of social media. You have to vary your pace, hard to hit when bowlers find their lengths. While chasing 150, getting a move on in the powerplay is important. When bowling in MS, I backed my strengths,” he said at innings break.
