Ravichandran Ashwin scored his maiden T20 fifty as he scored 50 off 38 balls against Delhi Capitals batting at number three. His knock helped Rajasthan post a modest 160 batting first but that was not enough to take his side home. He also went wicketless with the ball giving away 32 runs from his spell.

After RR’s loss to DC, former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel while speaking to Cricbuzz spoke about Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling in the game. Patel revealed that he had often asked Ashwin to bowl his off-spinners more. He further said that he should have done the same against Mitchell Marsh who scored 89 off 62 balls and played his part in Delhi’s win.

Ravichandran Ashwin Is Surely A Better Off-Spinner: Parthiv Patel

“I have asked Ravichandran Ashwin many times to bowl more off-spinners. We saw that someone like Moeen Ali bowled Virat Kohli with his off-spin. Ashwin is surely a better off-spinner than him and he could have tried bowling conventional off-spin deliveries, considering there was some turn on offer”  said Patel.

Meanwhile, this win keeps Delhi alive in the race for the playoffs. They are still fifth on the points table with 12 points. The Royals meanwhile ars still third on the table with 14 points. Several teams including Delhi, SRH, KKR and PBKS are in the reckoning for the fourth spot in the playoff race.

Rajasthan Royals scored 160/ 6 batting first courtesy of Ashwin’s maiden IPL fifty. Devdutt Padikkal scored 48 but none of the other batters chipped in with scores. Delhi chased the score down in the 19th over and won by 8 wickets.

Was a tough game. Physically it’s tough when you bowl a bit and bat a bit. Slower balls and cutters, they were tough to score. 160 was par. But it’s about one good partnership. The first four-five overs of powerplay were about as tough a batting as I’ve had in T20 cricket. It was swinging, bit of seam there and there was bounce” said Marsh on his knock.

Both Delhi and Rajasthan now need to win their last two games to make it to the playoffs. Though placed at number three with 14 points, this loss against Delhi has made things tougher for Rajasthan as well.
