RR vs DC: It Was A Disappointing Night - Sanju Samson After Loss To DC
It was an important game for Rajasthan Royals in the context of qualifications for the playoffs. A win would have almost given them a certainty of a place in the playoffs. But a loss now means that they would have to anyhow win their remaining two games as even one win won’t be enough as net run rate might come into play. Sanju Samson after the game said he was not happy with the result.
Delhi Capitals were too good on the day as they beat RR by 8 wickets.
We Were Around 15-20 Runs Short: Sanju Samson
Rajasthan Royals were missing Shimron Hetmyer and it kind of affected RR in the slog overs as batting first they couldn’t get the kind of finish they would have wanted.
While batting first they lost an in-form Jos Buttler early in the innings. Ravichandran Ashwin did score a fifty coming in at 3, he was ably supported by Devdutt Padikkal but in the slog overs, Sanju Samson, Rassie Van de Dussen and Riyan Parag couldn’t get going.
Trent Boult did give them the breakthrough but after that, it was just about David Warner and Mitchell Marsh as they added 144 runs and brought DC close to the target. In the end, DC won by 8 wickets.
After the game, Samson said, “Very disappointing night. We were a few runs short, and a few wickets short in the middle. While we were batting the wicket was two-paced. We were 15-20 runs short. While bowling second we dropped a few catches. Really disappointed, but we would like to come back in the next game.”
On being asked if he thought it hit Marsh’s pad he said, “I never thought it could have been pad, we thought it came off the bat.”
“We need to come back stronger after losing any game in IPL, and I hope we come back stronger. We have done that in the past. Hetmyer will be back soon” he further added.
RR now desperately needs to win their remaining games as the points table is now really heating up.
