Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Daniel Vettori opined Ishan Kishan should be pushed down in Mumbai Indians’ batting order.

Kishan, who is the most expensive player of the IPL 2022 auction, hasn’t been at his best this season.

The MI wicketkeeper-batter started the tournament with a blistering unbeaten 81 against Delhi Capitals and followed with 43-ball 54 vs Rajasthan Royals in the second match.

However, Ishan’s form has dipped as the tournament progressed as he managed just 50 runs in the last five innings.

I think MI have to continue with Ishan Kishan next season: Daniel Vettori

The Jharkhand player was bought for a whopping amount of INR 15.25 crore.  When Vettori was asked whether MI will retain the left-handed batter next season, the former New Zealand player said MI will have to plan accordingly.

“The simplest way is to move him down the batting order. But it has to be about what they plan for the next year and if they see him as part of the team for next year as an opening batter,” Vettori told ESPNCricinfo.

“And they think that he can bounce back as he has in the past, then I think they have to continue with him because being an opening batter and a wicketkeeper is so important for the balance of their line-up,” he added.

Kieron Pollard and Tim David could form a lethal combination: Daniel Vettori

Vettori also suggested to play Tim David along with Kieron Pollard in the playing XI and drop Australia’s Daniel Sams.

“I think Tim David should come into the team, but I think I’ll probably more likely bring him in for Daniel Sams. I think Pollard and Tim David could form a lethal combination at the backend of the innings and I think that will put a lot of fear into the opposition teams,” he said.

“I would love for a domestic bowler to replace Sams, but Pollard and David could be special for Mumbai,” he added.

Mumbai Indians etched an unwanted record of losing first eight matches of IPL 2022 in a row. Rohit Sharma and his men will have the opportunity to open their account in the points table when they face Rajasthan Royals on Saturday.
