Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Jos Buttler was named Player of the Match for his brilliant century in the 9th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in DY Patil Stadium on April 2, 2022.
Being asked to bat first by MI captain Rohit Sharma, Rajasthan Royals put on a tough 193/8 in 20 overs with Jos Buttler hitting his second Indian Premier League century and the first ton of this year’s IPL 2022. He hit 100 off 67 balls with 11 fours and 5 sixes to his name.
Apart from him, Sanju Samson made a quick-fire 30, and Shimron Hetmyer with a quick 35 in 14 balls, RR managed to put a good total on the board.
Speaking about his innings after receiving the Player of the Match Award, Jos Buttler credited his confidence in white-ball skills and called them his strength.
He said: “Feels fantastic to contribute to a win. Was a bit nervous at the halfway mark, wondering if the innings will result in a win or not. The last few months have been wonderful, so just carrying on from there. Family time has helped me to relax and refresh. I always have confident coming into white-ball cricket, that’s where my strength is. It (diving catch) was a good one for me, delighted to take that and it was a good phase of cricket for us. Ashwin taking a wicket and then Chahal striking twice.”
Jasprit Bumrah and Tymal Mills were the best picks of the bowlers from the Mumbai Indians’ side as they picked three wickets each.
Half-Centuries From Ishan Kishan And Tilak Varma Goes In Vain As Rajasthan Royals Bowlers Hold Nerve
In the chase, MI lost quick wickets early on with Rohit Sharma and Anmolpreet Singh falling in quick succession. But then Ishan Kishan struck 54 with 5 fours and 1 four and added 81 runs for the third wicket with young Tilak Varma, who made 61 in 33 balls with 5 sixes and 3 fours.
But then Yuzvendra Chahal with 2/26 and Navdeep Saini with 2/36 proved to be too much as Kishan and Tilak got out one after another in search of quick runs as the required run-rate mounted.
RR won the match by 23 runs in the end and garnered four points from 2 matches, while MI have lost both their matches.
