Shreyas Iyer, Ravichandran Ashwin, And Shikhar Dhawan Released By Delhi Capitals (DC) In IPL 2022 Retention. Delhi Capitals, the runners-up of IPL 2020, haven’t retained three big names for next year’s edition of IPL. Their highest run-scorer for the last three seasons, Shikhar Dhawan didn’t find a place in the team’s retention list.

Dhawan has been the cornerstone of Delhi’s batting unit for the last few years. He has led the run-charts for the franchise in every season since making his comeback to his home franchise.

Dhawan was phenomenal with the bat last year and has overall played a significant role in the franchise’s success. Dhawan finished the last season as the fourth-highest run-scorer with 587 runs in 16 matches at an average of close to 40. Ahead of a new season, there might be a chance that Shikhar Dhawan could play for a new franchise.

Delhi Capital’s former skipper, Shreyas Iyer too has been released by Delhi Capitals. Iyer took over the captaincy from Gautam Gambhir midway during the 2018 edition of IPL. Under his leadership, Delhi Capitals went on to reach the playoffs for the next two consecutive seasons.

Apart from his leadership skills, Iyer scored heavily for Delhi Capitals at number three for the last 3 seasons. However, Delhi Capitals has opted to give Rishabh Pant the leadership role for the next season. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that he might lead a different franchise in IPL in the IPL 2022.

Despite making his comeback for India in T20 internationals, Ravi Ashwin didn’t find a place in Delhi Capital’s retention list. The left-arm spinner, Axar Patel has been opted ahead of Ashwin in the team. Since been traded to Delhi from Punjab, Ashwin had one reasonably well for Delhi.

The Indian spinner, however, didn’t have a great season with the ball in IPL 2021. In 13 matches, he managed to pick only 7 wickets at an economy of 7.41.
