Shubman Gill rose to prominence when he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for 1.8 crores ahead of the 2018 edition of the tournament. Gill was only 18 years old at that time. He made it to KKR’s team on the back of impressive performances in domestic cricket.

In his very first season, she showed spark and lived up to all the expectations. Striking at 146.04, Shubman Gill scored 203 runs in 13 matches at an average of 33.83.

However, his strike rate remained questionable in the following editions and the rise of other talented youngsters led to his stocks going down a bit. In his career for KKR, Gill has played 58 matches and scored 1417 runs at an average and strike rate of 31.48 and 123.00 respectively.

Another notable exclusion in the team is Rahul Tripathi. The 30-year old batsman played some sensational knocks in the last edition. Striking at over 140, he scored 397 runs in 17 matches.

He played a vital role in turning Kolkata Knight Riders’ fortunes in the second leg of the tournament. For the overseas slots, KKR has shown faith in the likes of Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. Skipper, Eoin Morgan has been released by the franchise for next year.

He failed miserably with the bat in 2021, having managed to score only 133 runs in 17 matches at a dismal average of 11.08. One shouldn’t get surprised if Morgan doesn’t find any buyer for the next edition of the tournament.
