Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a blistering 99 runs at his home ground in Pune at the MCA Stadium on Maharashtra Day. He might have missed his 2nd century by just 1 run but it proved very vital innings as it helped Chennai Super Kings win their 3rd game of the season.

Gaikwad had only scored just 138 runs in 8 innings prior to the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad but this 99 would give him a lot of confidence going forward.

Playing Pace Brings The Best Out Of Me: Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway opened the innings for CSK as they were put to bat first, the openers combined together to add 182 runs for the first wicket. Gaikwad got out for 99 as he tried to slice a ball towards point but was caught by Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Nevertheless, the opening wicket partnership put SRH completely on the backfoot as apart from Bhuvneshwar Kumar all the bowlers were taken for cleaners. Umran was the most expensive bowler as he gave away 48 runs in his 4 overs.

He was targeted by Gaikwad from the get-go as Gaikwad played most of his shots in the ‘V’ which fetched him great rewards.

“It felt good, better that it came in a win”, Gaikwad said about his innings in the presentation.

When asked about his form in the season, he said: “There will be times when good balls come in and bad luck but with a good support staff you have faith. You have to start from 0, so I do not believe in form. I feel playing pace brings the best out of me.”

When asked about how he prepared to face the short balls, he said: “I did not expect it. There are some types of balls that bowlers cannot always execute, it’s also two off six. So, I know when it’s not coming, but I do work on it.”

Gaikwad’s return in form could prove to be crucial for CSK going ahead in the tournament.
