Legendary Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has revealed that the veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja came to know in the Indian Premier League 2021 itself that he will be given the responsibility to lead the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

On March 24, just a few days before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 began, legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni officially decided to hand over the CSK captaincy to Jadeja.

However, Chennai Super Kings struggled under Jadeja’s captaincy as they won only 2 games and faced 6 defeats and Jadeja’s form with bat and ball also took a massive hit.

So on Saturday, Chennai Super Kings released an official statement confirming that Jadeja has decided to hand back the captaincy to Dhoni to focus and concentrate more on his game.

Meanwhile, after the 13-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday, Dhoni revealed that Jadeja got to know last season that he will be leading the side in the Indian Premier League 2022. He asserted:

Between me and Jadeja, he knew last season itself that he will be given a chance to captain this year. He knew and got enough time to prepare.”

MS Dhoni further added that he wanted the captaincy transition to take place in the Chennai Super Kings. He said that in the first two games he gave pieces of information to Jadeja but after that he stopped it and left Jadeja on his own. He stated:

“What is important is you want him to lead the side and I wanted that transition to happen. In the first 2 games, there was information going in towards Jaddu and after that I left it to him to decide which angle to bowl and all that.”

MS Dhoni also said that he didn’t want Jadeja to feel that he was just going for the toss and the team was being controlled by someone else. He said:

At the end of the season, you don’t want him to feel as the captaincy was done by someone else and I’m just going for toss. So it was a gradual transition.”

Dhoni further asserted that “spoon-feeding doesn’t really help a captain”. He stated:

“Spoon-feeding doesn’t help captain, on the field you have to take those crucial decisions and you have to take responsibility for those decisions.”
