The IPL auction 2022 was one hell of an affair as the streets of Bangalore were overflown with money over the span of 2 days for more than 200 players traded in the mega event. One of the rather unfortunate highlights of the IPL auction 2022 was regular auctioneer Hugh Edmeads collapsing due to Postural Hypotension on the first day of the event. However, Charu Sharma, the veteran sports presenter, came to BCCI’s rescue and assumed Hugh’s responsibilities.

The entire cricketing fraternity was taken aback by Charu Sharma’s spontaneous arrival and his inch-perfection execution of the IPL auction 2022 for 2 days. Charu commanded the podium in a manner so gracefully, that it seemed his bread and butter shot in cricketing terminology. After all, selling 200 players in 2 days with magnanimous spending of ₹5,51,70,00,000 isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.

Among the 200 players that were sold in the 2 days of the IPL auction 2022, Khaleel Ahmed, the former-left arm pacer who used to represent the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League was one. His bid started on day 02 of the auction with the base price of INR 50 Lakhs. Mumbai Indians (MI) opened the bid for the player as they had a left-arm pace legend at their disposal in the auction room, Zaheer Khan.

Delhi Capitals (DC) got in the act too and they too carried forward Khaleel’s bid. The bids started getting enormous and here’s where the moment of confusion crept in. As the bid reached the 4.60 Crore figure, Mumbai Indians went ahead with a bid of 4.80 Crores. Delhi, however, had no hesitation in raising the paddle for the 5 Crore figure and they did so in an instant.

However, Mumbai Indians too seemed adamant about associating the left-arm pacer with themselves and raised the paddle for the 5.25 Crores bid. This time, the Delhi Capitals bench went into deliberation. At first, Kiran Kumar, the Delhi Capitals’ co-owner raised the paddle for 5.50 Crores and then refused in the blink of an eye.

However, auctioneer Charu Sharma got confused herein and he stated that Delhi Capitals have bid 5.25 Crores for Khaleel Ahmed despite the fact that it was Mumbai Indians who had bid 5.25 Crores for Khaleel. As Charu announced that Delhi have the highest bid at 5.25 Crores, Mumbai Indians went into deliberation and then pulled out of the bid. Eventually, Mumbai Indians were robbed of Khaleel Ahmed despite having the highest bid of 5.25 Crores and Delhi Capitals got the player at 5.25 Crores despite bidding only 5 Crores.

Both Delhi And Mumbai Stack Up Squads

Mumbai Indians began the IPL auction 2022 in a sluggish manner as they could buy only a few players on day 1 of the mega auction. However, their bid for Ishan Kishan for 15.25 Crores, grabbed a lot of eyeballs, which eventually went on to become the highest bid amount for a player in the IPL auction 2022. On the 2nd day, however, Mumbai loaded their squad, with the most notable inclusions of Jofra Archer, Tim David, and Dewald Brevis.
