Five Players Who Can Go Unsold In IPL 2020 Auction; One aspect for which every cricketing fanatic and cricketing individual waits in a year is all about the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. It is a platform, which changes the fate of the players in a very short period of time. Over the years, IPL auctions have witnessed a lot of rags to riches stories with franchise owners giving their all for the young cricketers. On the other hand, there have been cases when star players, who are expected to crack a massive deal, went unsold.

Much like every edition, the upcoming IPL auction is also set to be a scintillating affair with a great set of players making themselves available for the upcoming Indian Premier League. While it is a crispier aspect for franchises, a few players might be worried, with their contract in danger. Here we figured out five players who can go unsold in IPL 2020 auction for obvious reasons.

The upcoming auctions will take place in Kolkata on December 19.

5. Tim Southee:

Surprisingly, New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee is one of those players, who is yet to settle himself in the Indian Premier League. In total, he played seven editions of the cash-rich league. Following his stint with Chennai Super Kings in 2011, he was ignored in the auction for a couple of years.

However, the flamboyant New Zealand cricketer has been a regular player in the IPL since 2014. He played for Rajasthan Royals before signing for Mumbai Indians. Fortunately, he got 11 matches when he was with Mumbai but failed to impress thus losing a spot to Mitchell McClenaghan and Mitchell Johnson.

In 2018, Royal Challengers Bangalore entered the fray for the Kiwi and picked him for his base price of 1 crore. He went on to become the main death bowler for RCB and that in return made them retain him. But, it didn’t yield them quality results, as he picked only 1 wicket in his 3 games for RCB in IPL 2019. Overall, he picked only 28 wickets in just 40 IPL matches. He would likely go unsold in IPL 2020 auction following his poor show in previous editions of IPL.

4. Martin Guptill:

Yet another unfortunate Kiwi cricketer, who failed to make an impact in the Indian Premier League. The swashbuckling opener from New Zealand, Martin Guptill has not quite lived up to his credentials in the IPL. So far, he got chances in three IPL seasons and only managed to score 270 runs. Though he is a sensational player for New Zealand in the shorter format, unfortunately, he failed to showcase his calibre in IPL.

In the initial couple of seasons, Martin Guptill managed just 189 runs in 10 games that include one half-century. Following the poor show, he was out of IPL 2018 but got the chance in IPL 2019 when Sunrisers Hyderabad tried him in place of David Warner. Unfortunately, he failed once again, where he scored 81 runs off 3 games.

Those three games were the audition for him to make things fall in place but unfortunately, failed to leave an impact. With the franchises having a settled opening pair, mostly, he would stay away from the IPL 2020.

3. Robin Uthappa:

None would have expected to see his name in the chart but unfortunately, his show for Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous season will certainly make an impact during the upcoming auction. Right at the crucial stage of the tournament, Robin Uthappa failed to make things fall in place for the team.

He is one of the few players who have featured consistently across all the years of the Indian Premier League. And also, he is one of the highest run-scorers in IPL with 4411 runs in 170 games. Despite having enormous experience in this format, Robin Uthappa might not attract a bidder in the upcoming auctions.

He was retained for Rs. 6.4 crores going into the previous edition but unfortunately, couldn’t deliver the required goods. Robin scored 282 runs off his 12 games for KKR, which came at a strike rate of 115. Perhaps, those stats wouldn’t entertain much during the auction time.

2. Colin Munro:

Who would have expected that a player like Colin Munro will be waiting for his fortune in auctions? Colin Munro, who is a world-class T20I specialist batsman, had never performed to his calibre in Indian Premier League. He got enough chances to showcase his class but surprisingly, he hardly achieved any success for the team.

A hard-hitting batsman, Munro holds the record for the fastest half-century by a New Zealander in T20 cricket; his 14-ball blitzkrieg against Sri Lanka stands second only to Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball fifty against England. A T20 favourite in leagues across the world, Munro has amassed over 3500 runs in the format but unfortunately, failed to replicate his performance in IPL.

Adding to his incredible track record, he amassed a century against India in Indian conditions when he played in the shorter format of the game. Despite all the stunning work, his poor stats in the competition might put him away from IPL 2020. So far, he scored 177 runs in 13 IPL games with the best score of 40.

1. Jaydev Unadkat:

The name Jaydev Unadkat hogged the headlines for quite a few times during the auctions. The 2017 VIVO IPL season was one of the best for Jaydev Unadkat, where he claimed 24 wickets from 12 matches for the Rising Pune Supergiant. The incredible show had fetched him massive numbers in the auctions when Rajasthan Royals bought him for INR 11.5 Crores in the 2018 auction and in the subsequent year, he was once again bought for a whopping INR 8.4 Crores by the same franchise.

In 2018, Jaydev Unadkat bagged 11 wickets in his 50.2 overs for Rajasthan at an economy rate of 9.65. In the following season, he picked  10 wickets in his 37.2 overs at an economy rate of 10.66. All those poor numbers will certainly make an impact on his selection for the upcoming season.

If Jaydev Unadkat enters into the chart with a base price of INR 2 Crores, it would be even tougher for him to find a bidder. If there can be any positive for him going into the auction, it would be his nationality, as Indian bowlers will have decent gains.
