Cricketer turned commentator Aakash Chopra expressed his concerns over Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s bowling performance in IPL 2021.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was one of the best bowlers who used to give the team early breakthroughs and turned the game in the death overs. Bhuvneshwar has twice won the purple cap in IPL in 2016 and 2017.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar has picked five wickets in IPL 2021
The 31-year-old bowler’s form has dipped as he is not getting enough wickets in IPL 2021, having got just five wickets from nine games.
Chennai Super Kings needed 16 runs from 12 balls to win, and Bhuvneshwar bowled the penultimate over where he was drubbed for a six and a four by Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni, respectively, as CSK won by six wickets.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not the same bowler at this point in time: Aakash Chopra
Chopra said he is concerned about Bhuvneshwar’s form, given that he will be playing as one of the three seamers for India in the T20 World Cup this month later.
“I am getting a little concerned about Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s form. If the World Cup were to start tomorrow, you would not play Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the XI because the form is just not there,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
“He is struggling a lot, and we have only three fast bowlers in the Indian team – Shami, Bumrah and Bhuvi. Bhuvi was my second choice with Bumrah, but at this moment, he is no longer second but has become the third.
“He is not the same bowler at this point in time. There is a lot of class. They say form is temporary, and class is permanent, and he will bounce back. Let’s hope that he bounces back, but at this point in time, he is looking a patch on who he was, and it is a sad story,” he added.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was appointed India’s vice-captain in the limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka in July.
