Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Ambati Rayudu walked back to the dugout after sustaining a blow to his elbow. The 35-year-old received a pacy delivery from Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Adam Milne which he couldn’t fend off.
The IPL 2021 season resumed on September 19 with CSK clashing against defending champions MI. The MS Dhoni-led side won the toss and opted to bat first. The decision backfired quickly as the Kiwi pacer-duo of Trent Boult and Milne ripped apart the top order.
Rayudu walked in quite early as CSK looked to get something out of the powerplay. The batsman found it hard to get used to the pace of the pitch. He ended up misjudging a waist-high delivery from Milne just three balls into his innings.
Rayudu tried to duck but soon realized it wasn’t as short as he thought it would be. He ended up fending at it awkwardly only to be hit flush on the elbow. He looked in immediate discomfort and the physio tended to him during the over break. Rayudu was in too much pain and was advised to retire hurt.

CSK in deep trouble after opting to bat first
Earlier, in-form opener Faf du Plessis was dismissed for a rare duck by Boult. English all-rounder Moeen Ali soon followed suit as he tried to drive a rising delivery. He trusted the pitch far too early though as the ball arrived slowly and he mistimed the shot to cover.
Suresh Raina looked in all sorts of discomfort against Milne’s bouncers. He tried to break the shackles, surviving an outside edge in the process. His luck ran out though, as he tried a blind slog only to get a thick under-edge to the fielder at point.
CSK was 7/3 at the end of three overs, with MS Dhoni and Ruturak Gaikwad at the crease.
