Former West Indian batsman Brian Lara praised Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) performance in the second leg of the IPL 2021 so far but also hinted at a couple of weaknesses in their batting lineup. CSK scraped through in a nail-biting last-ball finish against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Sunday to move back to the top of the table.
MS Dhoni-led CSK has looked the most complete side throughout the tournament. They have put up consistent performances one after another and have barely given their opponents any breathing room. However, Lara feels otherwise.
Despite having a clean three out of three wins in the UAE leg of the league, Lara hinted that the Chennai side was vulnerable against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their first game but their opponents didn’t capitalize on their advantage.
“I think teams have got to aim at their weaknesses, and they have got some. I’m not going to stand on air and call their names out but they do have a couple of weak areas you can try to work on as an opposition.“
“We saw them bat in the first game since the restart against Mumbai Indians. I think MI let them get off the hook after having them four down,” Brian Lara was quoted as saying on official broadcasters, Star Sports’ pre-match show.
CSK extend unbeaten UAE streak to six wins against KKR
The day game saw a lot of drama unfold in the final stages. KKR looked as if they had done enough to defend their total of 171 against the Men in Yellow. Ravindra Jadeja had other ideas, however, and he tore into inexperienced Prasidh Krishna in the 19th over.
He snatched 22 runs from it and brought the equation down to 4 off the last over. Sunil Narine gave it his best shot and forced it to the last ball. A composed Deepak Chahar managed to sweep and score the winning runs for his side and they moved back to the top of the table with 16 points in ten games.
