Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra is leading the way to analyse the strengths and weaknesses of eight franchises ahead of IPL 2021. Six months after IPL 2020 in the UAE, the 14th edition of the marquee T20 league will occur in India from the 9th of April. According to Aakash Chopra, MS Dhoni is Chennai Super Kings’ greatest strength.
MS Dhoni has etched his legacy as one of the most successful captains in world cricket. The 39-year old keeper-batsman, who has led Chennai Super Kings to three titles, retired from international cricket last year, a year after playing his final match in national colours. While Dhoni endured a forgettable 2020 IPL as captain and batsman, one would always back him to deliver and turn the team’s fortunes around.
Aakash Chopra underlined that MS Dhoni is Chennai Super Kings’ biggest strength since the keeper-batsman is a great visionary and the most prized asset in IPL’s and Indian cricket’s legacy. The 43-year old highlighted that Dhoni makes players and knows how to get the best out of them, backing the veteran to do the same in IPL 2021.
“The Chennai Super Kings’ biggest strength is MS Dhoni. A team which has a captain and visionary like MS Dhoni, I think he is one of the most prized assets in IPL cricket or the legacy of Indian cricket. He does not find players but makes them. He finds the positives in the players and gets the best out of them and this year is going to be no different,” Chopra told in his Youtube channel.
They know how to win the crucial moments in T20 cricket: Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra went on to say that experience is Super Kings’ second-most significant strength. He feels that the likes of Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo and Moeen Ali are all experienced and know how to win the crucial moments in the shortest format. Chopra continued stating that Chennai has three-dimensional players like Bravo, Jadeja, Sam Curran, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur – all of whom are match-winners across facets and liked by MS Dhoni.
“The experience in the Chennai Super Kings’ squad is their second strength. This team has a lot of experience. They have Robin Uthappa, Suresh Raini, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Moeen Ali – they have so much experience that they know how to win the crucial moments in T20 cricket. Their third strength is that they have multi-dimensional players and they have got quite a few, whether it is Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina. The captain MS Dhoni likes such players,” he added.
