Sunrisers Hyderabad batsman David Warner said that he would like to take the opportunity to lead one of the two new franchises in IPL 2022.

Warner joined Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 after being with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) for the first five seasons in the Indian Premier League. Warner led SRH to their maiden IPL title in 2016 as they defeated Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final by eight runs.

Things didn’t seem to go well between the Australian player and his franchise in the final games of the league stage of IPL 2021 as Warner was dropped from the team and was seen cheering for them from the stands.

Captaincy is definitely something that I enjoy doing: David Warner

It remains uncertain about the Australian batsman continuing with SRH in the IPL and might be going under the hammer in the mega auctions for IPL 2022.

The BCCI has announced that two new franchises will be added from the next edition of IPL and Warner is ready to lead one of those new teams in his next stint in the cash-rich league.

“Yeah, two new teams are coming up next year. Obviously, those franchises have not been released yet. Would I like to captain it if it comes up? It is definitely something that I enjoy doing, it makes me play a lot better as well with that responsibility,” Warner told Sports Today.

I shared captaincy role with Kane Williamson a fair bit: David Warner

SRH had a very poor season in IPL 2021 as the Orange Army finished at the foot of the points table having won only three matches from 14 games. Warner was replaced with New Zealand’s Kane Williamson as the team’s captain in the middle of the tournament.

Warner said that he had a lot to learn from his fellow teammates like Jason Holder and Rashid Khan in Sunrisers Hyderabad camp.

“Having a taste of it in this environment makes it easier. I shared that role with Kane a fair bit and so it is great to have other leaders in the franchise. Jason Holder was another guy, Rashid Khan who captained Afghanistan. These are people with whom you can share your knowledge and rebound a lot of information,” Warner mentioned.

Warner is Sunrisers Hyderabad’s highest run-scorer with 4014 runs from 95 matches and has scored 40 fifties and a couple of centuries for the franchise in seven IPL editions.
