Venkatesh Iyer has been a revelation for the Kolkata Knight Riders this season. Asked to open the batting at the start of the UAE leg of IPL 2021, the left-hander produced two exciting knocks against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, and then took a two-wicket haul; KKR emerged victorious in all three games.

After the game against RCB, he learned the trades of batting with Virat Kohli. Following the game versus Chennai Super Kings, three days ago, Venkatesh Iyer had another of his dream fulfilled as he got to spend some time with CSK skipper and World Cup-winning India captain, MS Dhoni.

The Indore-born left-hander took to Twitter to hail the “Greatest Cricketing brains” in MS Dhoni.

He was in praise for the “Leader” and “Teacher” in MS Dhoni – writing, Thala Thala Dhan… (Leader is always leader), Vaathi (Teacher) – as he was seen taking tips from arguably the greatest limited-overs captain.

#Thala thala dhan. . . Vaathi Teaching the student on how to handle out the pressure situations. @msdhoni the Greatest Cricketing brains of all time,” Venkatesh Iyer captioned the post.

KKR has a total of 5 victories in the 11 games so far; 3 of those have come in their last four matches in the UAE leg. A team that looked almost done and dusted in the first half of the season has been spurred on by adding Venkatesh Iyer at the top by the management.

On his debut, versus RCB, the southpaw slammed 41 unbeaten runs of 27 balls; in the next match against a strong bowling unit of Mumbai Indians, Venkatesh Iyer raised his maiden IPL fifty, scoring 53 off 30 balls.

While he failed to deliver much with the bat in the next couple of encounters, versus CSK and DC, the medium-pacer helped his side deliver four overs versus Delhi, returning with impressive figures of 2/29.

KKR now sit at the fourth spot in the points table with 10 points in 11 games. They will next take on Punjab Kings on Friday in Dubai.
